The Making of Assignment 2 - FOM Open Day E-wallpaper

These are my baby step on how to do my e-wallpaper. Firstly, I gather some of the pictures. I tries to snap some pictures on my own, but they turn out to be blurry. So, I have to use the pictures from the internet.

Firstly, I determine the tagline that I'll be using for the e-wallpaper, Open door to chances, FOM Open Day, a new beginning! So, I deciced to use picture of an open door. I found one picture that suit my tagline. So, I edit it in order to get only the door, eliminate the text. I use Clone Stamp.

Then, I took from my previous album, my friends' graduation. Nash, Amani and their friend. I need to eliminate the white section. I go to Select > Color Range and I select the white part. Then I inverse the part, and then bring it to the main file, the door.

As for the body figure, I apply Outer Glow to make it blend well with the black background.

Then, I put up text. Tagline and also the title. And then apply Drop Shadow and Bevel and Emboss.

But for the tagline, I apply Pattern Overlay which I define from the edge of the door. I like the brownish and yellowish color.

As for the logo, I merge the two layer to make it easier for me to move and scale it around.

Next, I write down the details of the event. And I reduce the layer opacity to make it more soft, because before that, I use quite bright yellow.

Tadaaaa! My own e-wallpaper for FOM Open Day!

Tutorial 05

Meet again in tutorial 5. This time I learn so much interesting techniques!
  • apply the techniques of Layer Style effects
  • the use of advanced Blending Effect Techniques
  • blend two images together using the Layers styles blending options
  • techniques of applying brush stroke with effects
  • curve effects techniques

Firstly, after open that Yoga Man picture, I have to draw fire-like-image using Lasso tool and then apply Gaussian Blur on it.

And the use Brush tool and color some of the drawing to produce a real-look of fire.

And then define the brush stroke, and save it as flame.

Next step, choose the brush that we've made just now. Adjust the size according the size that I wanted.
And then draw the flame according the pattern I like. I use different size of brush to produce a beautiful flame.

As for color of the flame, I choose red and yellow for the foreground and the background. After make a rectangle, I choose Filter > Render > Cloud. After that, I adjust the level to make more bright yellow and red.

Next, I position that color on the top of the flame, and select the flame. After the flame selected, I inverse the selection. And I delete the unnecessary part.
And then I liquify the flame to make it more realistic.

This is the flame after I apply liquify on it. After that, I copy the exact flame to the other hand of Yoga Man.

This time, I want to put some smoke. So I draw smoke-shape using Lasso tool.

Then, I used the same technique, I apply cloud but this time using black and white as the foreground and background.

And then I use Screen in the blend mode to produce white smoke. If you want to produce black smoke, simply use Multiply.

After that, erase some of the smoke which appear on his face.

So, this is the outcome.

Tutorial 04

In these tutorial exercise, I learned how to create a liquid and icy effect using layer styles and also blending option!

Firstly, I have to select the Ink Vector layer. And then I choose Gradient Overlay in the blending option.
After that, I change the gradient color from black to blue. This is to enhance the icy color of the font later on. I also adjusted the angle.

Then, I tick on Inner Shadow. And also adjusted the option in the structure.

Then I apply Drop Shadow to the layer. And then I wanted to apply one more layer of shadow. But Photoshop couldn't allow me to do so. So, I have to use Outer Glow.

In order, to apply one more shadow, I change the blend mode to Multiply and also change the outer glows color.
I apply Bevel and Emboss to create 3d effect.

This is the step where I save all the style. So that I can use the same style in the future.

And then I have to select which layer in the channels that have the more texture, which is the green. Then I copy that channel and apply Gaussian Blur with 1.3 px on it.

I adjusted the level of that layer. And then I define that pattern so I can use for further steps.

This is the step where I use back the pattern that I define before to make the splat layer more look like
Lastly, I open the blending option and then I tick on 'Blend interior effects as group' and the I reduce the fill opacity according to amount that suit.

And this is the outcome!

Tutorial 03

Ok we meet again in tutorial 3. This time I learn new things!
  • Select a path, create a new layer & fill it with the background color
  • Create a new Alpha Channel, use the Line Tool to draw pixel-based lines across text
  • Pixelate an image with the Mezzotint Filter & then blur the image with Gaussian Blur
  • Adjust contrast with the Levels Command, use selection as a layer mask & invert pixels
  • Stroke a selected path & customize, apply Spatter from the Filter Gallery
  • Expose grayscale pixels in an underlying layer to achieve a painted effect
  • Place an image over text layer, make new layer from selected path & fill with black
  • Use the Group With Previous Layer Command to group layers in the Layers Palette
These are the streps that I follow :

Firstly, create new layer and copy the path that already in the file and paste it as white to the new layer.

And then create lines through the text to blend it well with the wall. I use different brush sizes. Then I use Mezzotint to make it realistic. It can be found under Filter > Pixalate. After that, I used Gaussian blur to soften the sharp edges.

After masking the effect of the text layer, I find it to hard for the text. I have to make it look like it is painted on the wall. Firstly, I make the original selection of the text in the new mask layer in Channel. Then I stroke it in the center and put some Spatter on it.

Then, I use blending option to adjust the underlying color. It makes the wall go through the text according the amount I wanted.

Here it goes! My final outcome for tutorial 3. Till we meet for my next entry.

Project Charter Assignment 1

Assignment 1 Title : Printout Postcard for the theme “Malaysia, Truly Asia”

Project Start Date : 26 November 2008
Project Finish Date : 28 November 2008.

Project Manager : Nurul Farhana binti Musa

Website : http://mcg1014-1051109871.blogspot.com/

Project Objective :
Students are to create a multi-cultural event for a post card. The theme would be “Malaysia, Truly Asia” which is the official slogan for Malaysia Tourism. Students are to show the multi-cultural aspects of Malaysia culture or life as a positive feature to attract tourist into this country.

Approach :
Firstly, I go online and save some beautiful images that related to the postcard topic and have a look at some of the postcard example. And then I use Adobe Photoshop CS2 to finish up my first assignment.

What tools at Photoshop you use to edit the images?
I do use some of the basic tools such as, marquee, lasso, magic wound, etc. I also play with stroke and blur to make those pictures blend well.

Write here about the idea of your postcard, is it your own Idea or References (if you refer to someone else idea)?
Basically, my original idea was to use some trishaw, KLCC, and a group of people wearing traditional costume. But is doesn’t seem very cultural look as the topic is Malaysia, Truly Asia. So, I decided to choose beach – which show a lot like Malaysian weather, an old man flying his kite and an old building, Bangunan Sultan Abdul Samad, one of the famous landmark. I also refer to some pictures that I find in Google, but my roommates help me a lot in brainstorming those ideas.

Comment :

It is very hard for me to find very good images while staying in hostel because the internet is very slow. And my computer shut down a few times because of the black-out in the hostel block.

The Making of Assignment 1 - Malaysia Truly Asia

This is my step-by-step for this assignment.

Firstly. I edited the color of the first picture. But I only edited the blue and cyan using Hue/ Saturation mode. This is to enhance the sky - blue color.

And then I use lasso tool to take this image and bring it to the main document. I set the feather to 35 px to get smooth edges.

And as for this photo, I use magic wound to get rid of the sky around the kite. I also duplicate the layer, and the used Gaussian blur for the bottom layer to make those layer blend well.

For the text, I used Malaysian flag and make clip of the text so that I get the pattern of the flag on the text.

Finally, I stroke around the postcard to make some border.

And this is the outcome!
